Our programs follow Restorative Justice Principles. We create and support programs which improve the quality of life in Winooski. Restorative Justice views conflict as is a crime is primarily an act against the victim and the community. It partners community safety interests with opportunities for the victim to have say in solving the conflict. Offenders are offered opportunities to repair harm caused by their offenses, and learn new ways to avoid re-offense.
The Winooski Community Justice Center works closely with a city of Winooski Schools, Public Works Department and The Department of Recreation and Wellness We are members of the Winooski Community Coalition.
WCJC Programs Volunteer Reparative Board
The Winooski Reparative Board is a Restorative Justice Process. Cases are referred directly by Police Officers or by the Vermont Probation Department.
Volunteer Board members work with victims to offer offenders opportunity to repair the harm, make amends, and guide the learning of better behaviors. Many of the offenders referred to the Winooski Reparative Board are youth.
Community Conflict Resolution
Mediators work with landlords, tenants, property and business owners, and neighbors to resolve conflict.. We focus on the main affects of actions, not personalities, and gather those affected to design solutions, which become agreements that resolve conflict.
Graffiti Squad
We target vandalism by organizing volunteers to remove graffiti throughout the City of Winooski.
The WCJC works with Winooski Public Works on prevention and removal on both public and private properties when permission is granted. Graffiti removal occurs during warm weather. We have a lot of fun getting it done!
