Feb 5, 2016 – The Community Justice Network of Vermont (CJNVT) honored restorative justice leaders and long serving volunteers as part of celebrations to mark 20 years of restorative justice in Vermont. This event was held on Friday 2/5/16 at 9 a.m. in the Cedar Creek room at the Vermont State House.
While today restorative programs are recognized throughout the country and the world as a means to give voice to victims of crime and reduce re- offending, 20 years ago Vermont was one of the first states to begin to develop laws, polices, and practices to root restorative justice in our communities. The development of restorative justice in Vermont is the result of the leadership and dedication of many throughout the state. We are proud to recognize leaders and volunteers for their work to advance restorative justice including former DOC commissioners, a novelist, religious leaders, and small business owners.
This event is one part of Legislative Day at the State House and involves individuals from Community Justice Centers, Court Diversion programs and as well as volunteers, colleagues, supporters, and representatives from the Attorney General’s Office, Department of Children and Families, and the Department of Corrections.
“For 20 years, members of the Community Justice Network of Vermont have been leaders in the development and delivery of restorative justice programs and services. I am very pleased to acknowledge those who have worked tirelessly to establish restorative justice in Vermont, and volunteers from around the state who work to make our communities safer everyday.”
